We washed clothes this morning and didn’t get done until noon.  We needed four washers and dryers.  They had three washers and two dryers.  After doing the laundry we drove to Holland, MI.  After parking we found a geocache a couple of blocks over on the top level of a parking garage.  Jim wanted to go to New Holland Brewing so we walked there to have a beer.  We left the brewery and walked a few blocks down to the Wednesday farmer’s market.  We bought some mixed squash, a tomato, a bell pepper, a cucumber, a butternut squash, an eggplant, a pint of blueberries, a red onion, and a kohlrabi (a really strange looking veggie that you peel the outer layers off and then slice and use for dips).  It is kin to the turnip family and looked so strange I had to try it.

We walked back to the truck and then drove to Mt. Holland State Park and Harbor.  There is a lighthouse here that is nicknamed “Big Red”.  The red flags were out at the beach and the sheriff’s boat was out just beyond the swimming area watching to make sure people playing in the lake were safe.  After taking pictures of the beach and lighthouse we went to De Klomp’s Wooden Shoe Shop, Veldheer Tulip Gardens, and the Delft Factory.  These stores were all in one place.  They make Delft pottery with clay from Holland.  This is the only place in the U.S. that makes it.  Then we went to White Flame Brewing in Hudsonville and had a beer, then went back to Byron Center and to a Meijer grocery store.  I fixed the mixed squash sautéed in butter and olive oil with the red onion and garlic.  We had some pot roast with it.  We were going to try Rosie’s Diner in Rockford but it closed.
