July 22, 2012

It was 55 degrees when we woke up this morning.  When we went to bed last night we opened all the windows and we had to close them in the middle of the night. We left camp today at 9:00 am and drove to the Pictured Lakes visitor’s center.  We needed to know about the route we wanted to take today.  Thank goodness we asked because the road we looked at on the map and wanted to take was a rough gravel road.

We drove to Tahquamenon Falls State Park and got a camping site.  Tahquamenon Falls is the second largest waterfall in the eastern U.S. by volume (the largest is Niagara Falls).  We went to the lower falls area.  There are five lower falls but they aren’t very high. After viewing the lower falls, we drove to the upper falls.  There is only one fall here but it is a 50 foot drop for the water.  At the upper falls there was a brewery.  We went inside Tahquamenon Brewery and had a beer.  We don’t have cell phone connection at the camping site but we can get a signal up by the entry station.  We stopped there and updated the blog for the last 4 days.  Allen picked up our mail today so we called him to go through it.
